ArmInfo. The U.S. Department of State and the European Union have issued statements on the escalation in and around Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The United States is deeply concerned by and closely following reports of intensive fighting around Nagorno-Karabakh, including casualties and the loss of life. We urge immediate steps to reduce tensions and avoid further escalation.
"The?recent increase in tensions underscores the need for a negotiated, comprehensive, and sustainable settlement of all remaining issues related to or resulting from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," reads a statement by the U.S. Department of State.
"The European Union calls for an immediate end of hostilities that have erupted between Azerbaijani and Armenian armed forces around the Lachin Corridor and other parts of the contact line. Unfortunately, these clashes have already resulted in loss of life and injuries. There is a need to defuse tensions, fully respect the ceasefire and return to the negotiating table to seek negotiated solutions. The European Union remains committed to help overcome tensions and continue its participation in the process of establishing lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus," the EU statement said.
