ArmInfo.Without Artsakh, there are no and cannot be any relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences, Academician Ashot Melkonyan, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"It is impossible to remove Artsakh, the Artsakh problem which is the cornerstone, the basis of the entire spectrum of Armenian- Azerbaijani problems, and solve all other problems. Although Baku is trying, quite actively, to force Armenia to come to terms with its own vision of the problem, according to which its Artsakh part is finally closed," he emphasized.
According to the academician, the essence of Aliyev's position is that by finally removing Artsakh from the Armenian-Azerbaijani agenda, he transformed relations with Yerevan into direct ones. And, to our great regret, the number of people in the leadership of Armenia who are ready to put up with such a state of affairs is constantly growing. Melkonyan noted that as a justification for their own defeatism, these politicians are trying to justify themselves by the unpreparedness of Armenia for a new war. And, as a result, they are promoting with all their might the idea of new concessions, which, in their opinion, will make it possible to avoid a new war. The academician, who does not share this position, believes that it is high time for Armenia to abandon it, since the psychology accompanying it in no way leads to a solution to the problem.
"A clear proof of this is the periodic increase in the degree of cynicism and impudence of the rhetoric of the same Aliyev: a flurry of insults against the military-political leadership of Armenia, and even against the Armenian people. And the more we give in, the more this cynicism and impudence will increase. We have already gone through all this, we have experienced all this, including through our own history. And it is time for us to start learning at least from our own mistakes, "summed up the academician.
