ArmInfo. We believe that peaceful rallies are part of an open political system. Ned Price, representative of the US State Department, stated this during a briefing, commenting on the protest movement in Armenia, which began two weeks ago.
In this regard, he stressed that a week earlier the United States reaffirmed its commitment to the democratic development of Armenia and expressed readiness to assist in establishing a lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
< We fully support fundamental freedoms and peaceful rallies. We call on all citizens to exclusively peacefully express their aspirations, and the authorities to show restraint. We call on the protesters to refrain from violence and respect the rule of law and democracy in Armenia>, Price stressed.
It should be reminded that on April 25, the opposition forces in Armenia initiated the Resistance Movement against the current government, within the framework of which the participants carry out actions of disobedience, protest marches and rallies. In the early days of the opposition movement, students from several metropolitan universities joined the protesters. Today, activists of the Resistance Movement block the streets in protest, blocking traffic in the city. There have been numerous cases of clashes between activists and law enforcement officers. The latter used disproportionate force against participants in peaceful actions of disobedience. A lot of videos with the beating of demonstrators have been circulated on the network. Every day, the RA Police detain several dozens of participants in the protest movement.
