ArmInfo.Geopolitical instability in Eurasia will continue for another ten years. Accordingly, we must be prepared to withstand shocks throughout this period. Former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Arman Melikyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
" It's about reformatting Eurasia. And we must be ready to launch the Russian "USSR 2.0" geopolitical project during this period. However, this name is conditional and will not have any substantive relation to its real content and strategic goals. The most important element of this the project seems to be an absolute watershed between the Russian Federation and Europe," he noted.
The diplomat found it difficult to answer the question whether Armenia would be on this side of the hypothetical divide along with Russia. According to his forecasts, the answer to this question depends on the wishes of Moscow. In particular, will it make such a demand to Yerevan, or will it still prefer to keep the Armenian "window to Europe" open, including for its own needs.
Characterizing the current situation around Artsakh, the diplomat sees the desire of the Aliyev regime to force the people of Artsakh to leave their homes through various provocations, forcing Yerevan to make many concessions along the way. While Ukraine naturally relegates Artsakh to the background of Moscow's preferences, at the same time strengthening its reluctance to open a second military front, now in the Caucasus. In this light, against such a background, Melikyan is convinced that it is necessary to conduct independent searches, to find many ways to neutralize the Azerbaijani military provocations, not only by political-diplomatic, but also by military methods.
Not excluding the possibility of a new large-scale war in such a geopolitical situation, Melikyan stressed the need to prepare Armenia for such a scenario as well. In this light, he expressed his conviction that if such a prospect is inevitable, it is necessary to create conditions for its start in the most favorable and convenient period for Armenia. "I am convinced that in addition to reforming the Armed Forces, the top priority of the Armenian leadership is to form the territorial structures of the militia as soon as possible. As well as equipping bomb shelters in order to ensure the protection of the civilian population, establishing stocks of provisions and medicines. All this must be done in parallel with negotiations and talks about peace with Azerbaijan. The most important step parallel to talks about peace should be diplomatic-political and legal steps towards preventing the threat of a new war," the diplomat summed up.
