ArmInfo. A protest at the arrival of an Azerbaijani delegation is taking place in front of the Sports and Concert Complex after Karen Demirchyan in Yerevan. The protesters are calling on European organizations to help the handover of Armenian POWs and return of forcibly displaced people to Artsakh.
Metakse Hakobyan of the Freedom faction, Artsakh National Assembly, stated that "Europe, a stronghold of democracy and human rights protection, was silent during the 44-day war in Artsakh, when the whole nation was being exterminated. And now they must open their eyes and ears and help us return our POWs. For over a year, more than one hundred Armenian POWs Azerbaijan has been silent about - and the Armenian authorities now seem to be silent as well - have been tortured without being repatriated," she said.
Ms Hakobyan also spoke of forcibly displaced people. They are homeless now. They cannot return to Artsakh and are a burden for Armenia's authorities. "They have the right to return to their homes," she said. "Armenia's authorities gave a larger part of Artsakh to the enemy and closed the issue promptly. And now they are following a false agenda," Ms Hakobyan said.
The protesters are holding posters reading "Hadrut is our home", "Shushi is our home", "Freedom to POW", "Shame on you", "RIP Democracy in Armenia", "Azerbaijan is guilty", etc..
