ArmInfo. French President Emmanuel Macron and President of the European Council Charles Michel commented on the transfer of eight Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijan to Armenia.
Thus, the President of France in his microblog on Twitter, in particular, wrote: "Eight Armenian detainees were released by Azerbaijan and transferred from Baku to Yerevan. They were reunited with their families, from whom they had been separated for several months. Thanks to our diplomats, as well as our soldiers who were mobilized for this operation. We're moving on."
In turn, the President of the European Council expressed his conviction that the release by Azerbaijan and the transfer of Armenia to 8 Armenian detainees is another sign of positive developments following the remote meeting last week between French President Emmanuel Macron, President of the European Council Charles Michel, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
"The EU supports stability and prosperity in the region," Michel tweeted on his microblock.
Earlier, the Armenian Foreign Ministry published the names of servicemen returned from Azerbaijani captivity. According to the media, some of them are servicemen captured on November 16, 2021 during another Azerbaijani provocation. It is worth noting that the exact number of prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijani captivity after the large-scale military aggression of Azerbaijan against Artsakh in the fall of 2020 is still not known.
According to experts, there are several hundred of them. Baku confirms the presence of about seven dozen people. Armenian prisoners of war and civilians are subjected to inhuman treatment and torture in captivity. Many of them became defendants in fictitious criminal cases and were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.
