ArmInfo. The rule of Recep Erdogan is not eternal. And he himself understands this very well. But today he is the one who decides everything and anything in Turkey. Chief Researcher at Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO), orientalist Alexey Malashenko expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"Disagreements within the Turkish pyramid of power are gradually deepening. New power flanks are being formed in Ankara, between which a struggle is unfolding. So far, Erdogan has demonstrated the ability to manage many problems within Turkish society. And, in my opinion, he will reshuffle his cabinet of ministers only in order to increase the quality of this governance. I think that given the growing dissatisfaction with Erdogan's power in Turkey, even within the ruling AKP, the need for this is still ripe," he said.
In any case, changes in the Turkish government, including the possible departure of Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, according to Malashenko's forecasts, will not lead to changes in Ankara's foreign policy concept. Noting the internal instability of Turkey and numerous problems on the external front, the orientalist noted that Erdogan would rather try to solve them through diplomatic rather than military activity.
Erdogan's recent mediation initiatives in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine are viewed by the orientalist in this light. According to the expert, Erdogan himself primarily needs a meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelensky to resolve differences. In order to maintain Turkey's reputation as one of the world's major powers and its own reputation as one of the world's major leaders. Taking part in conflicts of various kinds, Erdogan believes that in this way he will achieve greater popularity and bonuses for himself personally.
"Of course, I doubt the success of Erdogan's mediation activities, despite his visit to Kiev (Kyiv) and rather ambiguous statements about Moscow. And we see that all this activity is unfolding on his personal initiative. The Foreign Ministry practically does not participate in all this. As for the Armenian direction of his activities and the activities of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, I consider that it is the most invariable in all of Turkey's unchanging foreign policy. The process with Armenia is a reflection of the current situation in Turkey. With this process, Ankara solves issues and problems not only in the region, but also in world and within Turkey itself. Against the background of all this, I don't think at all that even if Erdogan dismisses his entire cabinet of ministers, this will change anything in this case, " the expert concluded.
