ArmInfo. The presidential candidate representing the ruling Civil Contract party, RA Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahan Khachatryan will be elected Armenia's president, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated with confidence at a Cabinet meting on February 3.
Mr Khachatryan was nominated for Armenia's presidency by 65 MPs. The other members of the ruling party could not sign the document for legal or technical reasons. Armenia's premier hopes that Mr Khachatryan will be elected Armenia's president at least in the second ballot. The presidential election is scheduled for March.
In his turn, Mr Khachatryan thanked the ruling party for trust and assured the government he will spare no effort to accomplish the tasks set.
Under the RA Constitution, at least ¬ of the MPs have the right to nominate a presidential candidate. The RA National Assembly elects Armenia's president by at least 1/3 of votes. In case of the second ballot, all the presidential candidates that participated in the first ballot can participate in the second.
The candidate that receives at least 3/5 of the votes will be elected Armenia's president. In case the president is not elected in the second ballot, the third ballot will be held, with two leading candidates participating.
In the third ballot, the candidate that receives a majority of votes will be elected Armenia's president. In case the president is not elected in the third ballot, a new presidential election is to be held within ten days.
The ruling party Civil Contract has 71 seats in Armenia's Parliament, with the opposition blocs - Armenia and With Honor - having 29 and nine seats respectively.
