Thus, during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, the Iranian Minister, referring to the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the so-called 3 + 3 arrangements, the foreign minister described such cooperation in favor of consolidating peace and stability in the region and stressed that foreign powers outside the region do not have the right to interfere in regional issues. In turn, Aliyev said that regional issues should be resolved by regional countries on their own, adding: "We oppose the involvement of countries outside the region in regional issues. We consider regional connections useful for all countries in the region."
Meanwhile, as reported by the Azerbaijani media, at a press conference after meeting with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku, Abdollahian noted that at the meeting of the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan in Ashgabat, the leaders agreed to organize the format of the Quartet, which will include Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey and Iran: "The countries of the region can solve their problems on their own, there is no need for the intervention of countries outside the region, we do not need their help, they cannot have a place in our region, the countries of the region have the will to solve their problems.
We are in favor of strengthening regional cooperation. The platforms created with the participation of the countries of the region are a window for us. Strengthening these platforms reduces the influence of foreign countries in the region and forms the same political literature among the countries of the region, "the minister stressed.
It should be noted, on December 10, Moscow hosted the first meeting of the consultative 3 + 3 regional platform under the co-chairmanship of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the Director General of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the representatives of Georgia, who were also invited, refrained from participating in the meeting. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that during the meeting the prospects for the development of multifaceted regional cooperation were discussed. "It was agreed to focus the work of the platform on practical issues of interest to all its participants. Among them are measures to increase confidence, interaction in the trade, economic, transport, cultural and humanitarian fields, countering common challenges and threats. Representatives of five countries expressed interest in joining the work of the platform of Georgia, for which the "door" remains open. " The meeting participants also discussed work plans for the future with "the possible involvement of relevant ministries and departments," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The day before the meeting, the Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement that Georgia would not be represented at the 3 + 3 format meeting.
