YSU rector elected amid students` protests

ArmInfo. At its closed meeting on Friday, the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University (YSU) elected Hovhannes Hovhannisyan YSU Rector. Mr Hovhannisyan, who has to date been YSU Acting Rector, was the only candidate for the post.  

"At its meeting, the Board of Trustees, by 19 to 5, elected managing  rector. I was the only candidate and have been elected," Mr  Hovhannisyan told reporters. He was not present at the meeting. Mr  Hovhannisyan declined comments on the protest in front of the YSU  building prior to the meeting of the Board of Trustees. 

A group of young people held a protest prior to the meeting. They  branded the election illegal, as the only candidate for the post was  Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party.   They scattered leaflets all over the YSU building reading "No Civil  Contract propaganda at YSU", "YSU is not a Civil Contract office."
