ArmInfo. Former Turkish ambassador to Washington Serdar Kilic will be appointed to the post of Special Envoy for the normalization of relations with Armenia. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced this during his visit to the UAE.
"With the approval of our president, we will appoint our former ambassador to Washington Serdar Kilic as a Special Envoyfor the normalization of relations with Armenia)," Cavusoglu said, answering journalists' questions.
The diplomat recalled that recently both sides made positive statements regarding the normalization of relations. The Minister pointed out the need to take measures to build confidence between the parties. Cavusoglu reiterated that Ankara will act in coordination with Azerbaijan regarding the dialogue with Armenia. At the same time, he expressed confidence that the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Yerevan will benefit the entire region. "We consult with Azerbaijan on each issue, after which we take such steps. Nobody should doubt whether we can act independently or separately from Azerbaijan. We are one nation, two states. These are positive things that will benefit all of us," Cavusoglu said, Anadolu reports.
The Foreign Minister also said that the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the UAE is planned on February 14-15. On December 13, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara and Yerevan will appoint Special Envoys to discuss steps to normalize relations between the two countries. The Turkish Foreign Minister also announced the resumption of charter flights between Istanbul and Yerevan in the near future. Cavusoglu stressed that Ankara will act in coordination with Azerbaijan regarding steps to normalize relations with Armenia.
Yerevan welcomed this statement by the Turkish Foreign Minister. Thus, press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vahan Hunanyan, in particular, stated: "Armenia has always been and remains ready for the process of normalization of relations with Turkey without preconditions, which is enshrined in the program of the Government of Armenia. In this regard, we assess positively the statement of the Foreign Minister of Turkey on the appointment of a special representative for the normalization of relations, and confirm that the Armenian side also will appoint a special representative for the dialogue".
