ArmInfo. Yerevan's consent to participate in the "3 + 3" format initiated by Turkey is conditioned by Nikol Pashinyan's personal ambitions and desire to demonstrate his own capabilities in resolving issues with Turkey, that is, what his predecessor did not succeed in within the framework of "football" diplomacy.
Doctor of Historical Sciences Hayk Demoyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo . On January 11, a meeting between the deputy foreign ministers of Armenia, Russia, Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan was held in Moscow in the actual "3 + 2" format (without Georgia). On December 13, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Yerevan and Ankara will appoint Special Envoys for negotiations on the normalization of relations. Later, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry welcomed Cavusoglu's statement, confirming Armenia's intentions to appoint its special representative for the dialogue.
"As far as I understand, in this way the Armenian Prime Minister is trying to secure a certain image for himself - political authority. Pashinyan is trying to prove his own ability to resolve issues at the highest level. In my opinion, in vein, since neither he nor his team have the potential to resolve issues of this level . These people know only one thing - to carry out assignments, "he stressed.
Assessing the chances of "3 + 3" for implementation, Demoyan noted that in the absence of one of the key puzzles of this regional platform - Georgia, one should not expect full-fledged implementation of this format. Recalling that Ankara is not initiating this format for the first time - following the results of the War of 08.08.08, Turkey also tried to somehow gain a foothold in the region, the historian emphasized that following the 44-day war, there is a completely different balance of power behind Turkey, by the way, the NATO country, than it was in 2008. This, among other things, allows Ankara to successfully play with Moscow.
"To understand the current realities in relations between Armenia and Turkey, to understand the real prospects, the future of these relations, we should return to history. The latter clearly says that no empire will ever tolerate the existence of a self-sufficient and stable statehood at its side. By the way, this concerns not only the relations between Turkey and Armenia, but also the relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan and the attitude of Russia towards Turkey itself. Such a policy is a logical continuation of the imperial policy. And it just so happened that Armenia is in the region next to the three successors of the former empires. Who, completely openly, voice their appetites in response to which we smile, shrug, but do not resist at all. Why is this happening? Because, Pashinyan and his team are able to carry out orders, but they are not able to act on their own initiative. Initially, no one demanded initiative from them and does not demand it now," Demoyan concluded.
