ArmInfo.Rapid response groups of the RA Human Rights Defender office went to police stations after the detention of the relatives of the missing persons and POWs that were holding a protest in front of Armenia`s Parliament in Baghramyan Avenue.
"Pursuant to the order of the Human Rights Defender, rapid response groups have been sent to police stations to protect the rights of the relatives of the missing persons and POWs, who have been detained during a protest in front of the National Assembly. Private conversations will be held with the detainees and the legal grounds for detention will be examined," reads a Facebook message by RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
The parents of the missing persons and POWs have been holding a protest in front of the RA Parliament since morning. They have blocked Demirchyan street and Baghramyan Avenue, demanding a meeting with Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan. Police attempted to unblock the way for traffic in Baghramyan Avenue. After a scuffle, some of the protesters were detained.
The parents of missing persons and POWs have been holding protests in front of different government institutions. The reason is Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan`s remarks about captured Armenian servicemen.
