ArmInfo.Armenia`s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is sure that it is the long-standing electoral frauds, which have been practiced since the early 1990s, that have undermined the state resilience system and caused disastrous chain reactions in the security system.
"No matter how obvious is the fact that our priority agenda deals with external challenges, I, nonetheless, must state that the local elections with citizens being the Masters and Decision-Makers is, in fact, the fulfillment of our longstanding ambition," Pashinyan`s Facebook message reads. Armenia `s premier is well aware of the following prevailing opinion: "rigged elections with higher-level security are better." "However, I have always been convinced that it is the long-standing electoral frauds, which have been practiced since the early 1990s, that have undermined the state resilience system and caused disastrous chain reactions in the security system. The statehood and state institutions must guarantee our future," he said.
Local elections (party list system) were held in 36 enlarged communities of nine Armenian regions on December 5. The ruling Civil Contract party was seeking the posts of mayors in nearly all communities. According to the preliminary data by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the ruling party polled over 50% of votes only in 16 communities.
