ArmInfo. The agreements reached in Sochi, namely, one more trilateral statement, provide for the implementation of the yet unrealized points of the previous statements on November 9,2020 and January 11, 2021, Edmon Marukyan, Chairman of the Enlightened Armenia party, told ArmInfo.
"This is explicitly stated in the Sochi statement. It is clear that Azerbaijan has not yet realized Point 8 of the statement of November 9, 2020 - repatriation of all the POWs and hostages. The Sochi statement contains one more point - the one on the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from all the Armenian territories occupied over the last year," he said.
The last-named requirement is, according to Mr Marukyan, contained in Point 4 of the trilateral statement of November 26, 2021, which indicates the signatories` readiness to contribute to stability and security on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. They also pledged to form a bilateral commission for delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with further demarcation of the border, with Russia in an advisory capacity at the parties` request.
Since November 9, 2020, Armenian servicemen, unlike their Azerbaijani counterparts, have been retreating from the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Thus, Armenia`s territorial integrity was violated, with 41sq kilometers occupied by Azerbaijani troops. The steps to enhance border stability and security mentioned in the statement, especially border delimitation, are only possible after the Azerbaijani troops withdraw from Armenia`s territory.
"As regards the points on the unblocking of all regional trunk lines, they could be perceived as providing Azerbaijan and Turkey with an extraterritorial corridor via Armenia`s Syunik, which is their demand, if their own interests and interpretations are considered. However, if we proceed from Armenia`s interests, we could assume that the point is removing the long-standing blockade of Armenia by Azerbaijan and Turkey," Mr Marukyan said.
In this context, the Armenian MP considers strange the opposition forces` statements and claims that Nikol Pashinyan`s government intends to make new concessions to Azerbaijan. All the concessions expected after the 44-day war have been made, he said. So no other concessions should be expected - as a result of the Sochi meeting, for example. In this context, Mr Marukyan stressed the absence of relevant points in the statement by the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani leaders of November 26.
