ArmInfo.Armenia is one of the countries invited by U.S. President Joe Biden to the "Democracy Summit" scheduled for December 9-10, Politico writes and publishes the list.
"Biden aides are still shaping the agenda for the virtual summit on December 9-10, and much of their work is confidential. The list of invited governments has not been made public, although POLITICO managed to get one compilation on Thursday. All plans are preliminary and civil society groups are complaining about marginalization, "the newspaper notes.
At the same time, it is noted that despite the fact that "there are only a few weeks left before President Joe Biden's widely publicized Democracy Summit, it is not yet clear whether this will have any lasting impact."
It is noteworthy that neither Azerbaijan nor Turkey is included in the preliminary list of POLITICO. "Some countries, such as Turkey and Hungary, were not invited because their leaders had been undermining their democratic systems for years," the newspaper writes.
The main themes of the summit will be the challenges and opportunities facing democracy. The Forum also provides a platform for leaders to make both individual and collective commitments to protect democracy and human rights.
