ArmInfo. The regional "3 + 3" mechanism is beneficial to Erdogan's regime, because through it he actually officially receives leverage to participate in processes, including those related to Armenia. This is the opinion of Vardan Voskanyan, head of the Department of Iranian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Yerevan State University (YSU).
Thus, figuring out who benefits from the regional "3 + 3" platform proposed by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey, the Orientalis stated that apart from Ankara, in the short term, it is also beneficial for Moscow, since it will receive additional tools to influence Azerbaijan and Georgia.
"The platform is not fully beneficial to Iran, since it is the only one of the three non-South Caucasian states that does not have a military presence in the region, and" 3 + 3 "can only formally provide for the interests of the Iranian side, or rather, create such an illusion. However, the Iranian side may consider this as a "better than nothing" option.
If the platform is in the interests of Erdogan's regime, then the Baku dictator cannot have objections, although it is obvious that additional Iranian and Russian involvement is not in his interests, "the Orientalist said.
At the same time, Voskanyan stated that the mechanism cannot be beneficial to Georgia, given its western orientation, which has reached the point of no return, which implies, on the one hand, a possible weakening of Russia's influence and an extremely moderate level of relations with Iran, and on the other, limitation of Turkish involvement, which has already reached dangerous sizes, or even the status of an alternative ally of the United States, at least in part, replacing Turkey.
"In any case, Armenia should not agree to participate in a platform where Erdogan's regime will dominate us. In addition, there is a very clear formula: what is beneficial to Turkey's expansionist aspirations is at least contrary to our interests.
It turns out that the seemingly simple "3 + 3" formula has rather large gaps, and, for example, only Georgia can fail its implementation, "Voskanyan summed up.
It should be noted that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, came up with an initiative on a six-party format (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Iran) of cooperation on Karabakh and the issue of unblocking economic and transport ties in the region. This initiative is not yet supported by Georgia, which refuses to participate in any initiatives with the participation of the Russian side, and Armenia did not give an unequivocal answer either. The initiative was proposed after the signing of a trilateral statement to end the bloodshed in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The aggression was unleashed by the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem against Artsakh on September 27, 2020. The fighting lasted 44 days.
