ArmInfo. An Iranian court delivered a harsh verdict to the participants of the rally held on September 29, 2020 in Ardabil in support of Azerbaijan in the course of the large-scale Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to the Azerbaijani media with reference to the RFE/RL's Baku bureau, on October 8, in the Ardebil correctional institution No. 102, the court delivered a verdict, according to which 12 defendants were sentenced to 180 months (15 years) in prison, as well as 888 lashes.
According to the verdict, the defendants in this case are accused of causing grievous bodily harm, violation of law and order, as well as resistance to law enforcement agencies. The detainees themselves do not agree with the charges brought against them. It should be noted that in the fall of last year, during the war initiated by Azerbaijan with the support of Turkey against Nagorno-Karabakh, actions in support of Azerbaijan were held in Iran. More than 30 participants were detained, and criminal cases were opened against 12 of them.
