ArmInfo.Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian is ready to visit the capitals of Azerbaijan and Armenia as a gesture of good neighborliness. He stated this in an interview with the Russia-24 TV channel.
According to Amirabdollahian, the development of relations with neighboring countries is one of the main priorities of the new Iranian government.
"Azerbaijan and Armenia are our good neighbors, and we cannot cooperate with one of them and act against the other. Our foreign policy is balanced. Two days ago, my counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, visited Tehran. It would be nice if our Azerbaijani counterpart also had the opportunity to visit Iran too, " said Amirabdollahian, adding that he himself will visit Yerevan and Baku as a gesture of good-neighborliness as soon as there is such an opportunity.
He also noted that he had a confidential meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"What worries us in the South Caucasus? First, some foreign forces are trying to influence this region to change its borders, close border crossings or change them. At the same time, we note the presence of terrorists who appeared there during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. We are talking this, in no way doubting the territorial integrity of our neighbors, "the Iranian Foreign Minister said.
At the same time, he stated that the Azerbaijani side in negotiations with Iran promised to cleanse the region of terrorists. The head of Iranian diplomacy also pointed to the movement of the Zionist regime from the territory of Azerbaijan. "We consider this unacceptable. On the basis of friendship and good neighborliness, we have to settle all this. We are connected with Azerbaijan by a huge layer of cultural and historical relations and we must not allow media reports to cast a shadow on them," Amirabdollahian said.
Referring to the format of cooperation "3 + 3", the Iranian minister recalled that there are various formats of interaction, the above appeared at the beginning of the Karabakh conflict, there is also a platform Azerbaijan-Iran-Russia. "All of them serve for dialogue.
We believe that the new exorbitant requirements only complicate the situation in the South Caucasus region," the Iranian Foreign Minister said.
Referring to the tension in relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, Amirabdollahian expressed his conviction that the parties should make efforts to defuse the situation, since the region has seen enough of the negative in recent years.
"We consider some harsh statements unconstructive, and we think that if we approach the situation with reason and wisdom, we will be able to work out a good way to solve all problems on the basis of international law with Azerbaijan and Armenia. The main thing is non-interference in the region of foreign forces, the presence of Israel and terrorists", he summed up.
