ArmInfo.Any step by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan towards Armenia, any manifestation of pressure fits into the logic of forcing Yerevan to sign a final agreement with Baku. This opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by independent analyst Saro Saroyan.
"Such a policy was unswervingly pursued by Azerbaijan long before the 44-day aggression against Artsakh. And today Baku, with the external support of its sponsors, is trying to do everything to prevent Armenia from deviating from this line. And as the moment of signing this document approaches, Azerbaijan is increasingly trying to deprive Armenia of the possibility of retreat and squeeze the maximum out of the situation, "he stressed.
The analyst considers Aliyev's intentions to get an extraterritorial corridor to Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia to be an essential part of the future agreement. In this light, Baku, in his opinion, will try to do everything in order to gain the right to vote in control over this corridor, which for the most part will be carried out by Russia. Similarly, Azerbaijan seeks to gain some control over other communications linking Armenia with the outside world.
The only response of the Armenian leadership to this policy of Baku, according to the analyst, is to try, if possible, to avoid coercion by the rest of the participants in this process, to waste time and secure more favorable positions in these geopolitical processes. Describing such a policy as an ostrich one, the analyst assesses the very way of thinking of the authorities as vicious and a priori incapable of solving the problems of Armenia.
Saroyan considers the main problem of such behavior of official Yerevan to be the absence of fundamental guidelines in the direction of defining, in fact, the foreign policy line of the Republic of Armenia. The line that allows you to determine the political course that allows you to protect the interests of Armenia: the state and society. A derivative problem, according to the analyst, is the absence in the heads of the Armenian leadership of any signs, elements of coercion, allowing them to somehow defend their own interests.
"These people are simply incapable of defending the interests of Armenia. We have seen this all recent months, and we will see this in the future. There is simply no politics without principles and without willpower. And it is simply impossible to counteract the calculated, coordinated strikes of the enemy through provincial agility alone. But there is a way out, it always exists. But the search for this way out is available only to people with knowledge, political will and adherence to principles. Without these qualities, his colleagues from Armenia simply cannot oppose Aliyev. Something instead of us, of course, will be done by the centers of power but solely in their own interests. And this is quite normal. The whole question is whether such a state of affairs satisfies us, "the analyst summed up.
