ArmInfo. At this stage, the security of Armenia is ensured by the collective West, in general, and the United States, in particular. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by Varuzhan Avetisyan, a member of the Political Council of the "National Democratic Pole".
"It is important to emphasize that this is done, by and large, even without demanding the opinion of Armenia itself. And if not the West, we would have already lost Syunik. Our neighbors and not only have already broken through our territory and took control of a corridor or even corridors , and the enemy would penetrate even deeper into the territory of Armenia in Ararat, Gegharkunik and Tavush. It is very difficult to predict how much the West will provide this security. Especially against the background of the recent withdrawal of the US and allies from Afghanistan, "he said.
The politician stressed that almost everything in the world today is being formed in the context of global rivalry and confrontation between the United States and China. The idea of a corridor through the territory of the Armenian Syunik is not an exception. According to Avetisyan, the east-west corridor is part of Beijing's Eurasian Silk Road Initiative. This global project, in his opinion, will create a huge region with a focus on China.
In this light, the politician is convinced that it is precisely the contradiction of such plans of China with the interests and goals of the United States that determines Washington's desire to oppose them. Including through the creation of a North-South axis, part of which is planned to pass through Iran, Armenia and Georgia. Avetisyan is convinced that the US has a desire to make the vertical rather than the horizontal corridor through Armenia the "working'' one .
Commenting on the steps taken by the Armenian authorities towards ensuring the country's security, the politician stressed that a necessary precondition for this is the existence of the state itself. Avetisyan is convinced that the latter presupposes the formation of priorities, including the national government and allied relations of Armenia with the West, in general, and the United States and France, in particular.
Negatively characterizing the existing relations of Armenia with the Russian Federation, the politician believes that it is futile to link the future with today's Russia. First of all, due to Moscow's desire to bring the "Lavrov plan" to a victorious end in the form of the final destruction and absorption of the Armenian statehood by Russia and Turkey. At the same time, Moscow's rejection of such plans and the revision of the current Russian policy towards Armenia, according to his forecasts, can significantly change the prospects for relations between Moscow and Yerevan for the better.
