Political scientist: Armenia and Azerbaijan are only instruments in  the geopolitical struggle for a corridor through Syunik

ArmInfo.In the light of the latest geopolitical and global trends in international relations and politics, it becomes necessary to consider the issue of control over  communications passing through the territory of Armenia, not only  from economic, but also from a military point of view.

Political scientist Stepan Danielyan expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.  "This  is the main meaning and purpose of the corridor through the Syunik  region of Armenia so longed for for Azerbaijan and most importantly  for Turkey. Against the background of the weakening and, accordingly,  the retreat of the United States, Turkey is striving to become one of  the main players in the new multipolar world. It is the very retreat  of Washington that provides Turkey with such an opportunity, "he  said.

According to the political scientist, in such conditions, the risk of  a military clash on a fairly large scale increases significantly.  Drawing historical parallels with the past, Danielyan noted that  something similar had already taken place in the last century and  ended with the First and Second World Wars. It was the absence of the  main superpower in those years, in his opinion, that led to the  struggle for leadership between the main contenders for this status.  After that, the defeat of one side in this struggle led to Potsdam,  in which new rules of the game were outlined.

Today, another struggle for leadership, moreover, for existence,  according to Danielyan, is unfolding in Greater Central Asia and the  Greater Middle East. And as in the course of the First and Second  World Wars, its important component, in his opinion, is the struggle  for communications. First of all, communications, through which the  movement of military cargo and troops important for the conduct of  hostilities will be carried out.

"It is clear that the fight for the corridor through the Syunik  region is by no means waged between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The role  of our countries in this fight comes down to just tools. The time has  already come for positioning the main participants in the upcoming  struggle.
