ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan congratulated his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on his appointment to this high post and wished him success.
As the RA MFA reports, in his congratulations to his counterpart from Iran, the Armenian minister expressed his conviction that by joint efforts, they will continue to develop and expand the centuries-old Armenian-Iranian friendly relations. Earlier, after five days of discussions in parliament, 18 out of 19 candidates proposed by Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi, received a vote of confidence in parliament, to join the new government. Abdollahian was confirmed on Wednesday by the Mejlis (parliament) of Iran as foreign minister by 270 votes out of 286 MPs. In his speech to parliament on August 22, Abdollahian stated that the new government will work to neutralize the sanctions, but will not make the nuclear deal the center of foreign policy. Abdollahian served as ambassador to Bahrain during the reign of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Later, during the presidencies of Mahmoud Ahmadinejadand Hassan Rouhani, he served as deputy foreign minister and oversaw affairs in Arab and African countries. The new Foreign Minister is also known for his proximity to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and remoteness from the West, unlike his predecessor Zarif.
