ArmInfo. In light of the seizure of power in Afghanistan by the Taliban movement and the emergence of new threats in the Central Asian direction, today Russia is forced to spend large resources on ensuring the security of its borders in the southeastern direction, by the way, resources that it doesn't have. Ara Papyan, the head of "Modus Vivendi" analytical center, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"We all remember very well how, relatively recently, several decades ago, the formation of internal and external problems for the USSR was completed, which led to the depletion of the resources of the state, then the state itself, and eventually to its disintegration. The problem is that if the Russians are forced to leave the South Caucasus, they will most likely hand over the region to the Turks simply because they hate the West more than Turkey. "It is also obvious that of the three countries in the region, this will create problems only for Armenia," he said.
In addition to Russia, the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, according to the political scientist, will create serious problems for Iran and China, which will be due to the inspiration of the Taliban, who imagine themselves victors over the Americans. In particular, Shiite Iran will face hatred of the Sunni Taliban that exceeds even their hatred towards Christians. China, in turn, according to its forecasts, may very soon face problems in ensuring the security of its communications.
Commenting on the continuous shelling of Armenia's borders and the killings of Armenian servicemen initiated by the dynastic regime of Azerbaijan, Papyan noted that its goal is to legally consolidate last year's military defeat of Armenia in the form of the so-called "peace treaty".
"The implementation of the demarcation and delimitation of borders with Azerbaijan will end for Armenia with a legal renunciation of Artsakh through the legal consolidation of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and nothing else. All this will give absolutely nothing to Armenia. And at the same time, it will create a precedent for the recognition of another illegal border by Armenia, this time with Turkey. Moreover, the latter will mean the renunciation of all their rights by the Armenians, for the realization of which the Armenian people have been fighting for the past 100 years, "Papyan summed up.
