ArmInfo.Against the background of Aliyev's periodic threats against Armenia, shelling of our border villages, periodic killings of our military, the self-organization of the Armenian society continues to remain at an extremely low level.
Former Artsakh Foreign Minister, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Arman Melikyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo. On August 16, the Azerbaijani army began an intensive shelling of the villages of Kut and Norabak, as well as the Sotk pass in the Gegharkunik region. Bullets hit the roofs of some residential buildings. Starting from May 12, the Azerbaijani military violated the state border in the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia. Another hotbed of tension is located near the village of Yeraskh, Ararat region. In all these areas, attacks from the Azerbaijani side periodically occur. Only on August 16, Azerbaijani snipers killed two servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces.
"The problem is that, both before and after the early parliamentary elections, the current government failed to unite and consolidate society around itself. For this, first of all, the very idea is needed to ensure the implementation of our national, state interests. An idea, within which it will be possible to realize, protect the interests of our country to the maximum possible in the current geopolitical realities, "he stressed. According to the diplomat, there is still no such idea in circulation in Armenia. Meanwhile, it is precisely this idea, supported by concrete actions that could instill faith in the future in the Armenian society. Moreover, the government fails to fill the still open vacancies in the fields of security and diplomacy, which, in his opinion, indicates the lack of a full understanding of the full complexity of the situation in the government offices.
As a result, at this stage, in the diplomat's opinion, Armenia turned out to be unable to adequately respond to the challenges it faces. And in the absence of its own ideas, proposals, platform and efficient government, accordingly, it is not ready to conduct productive negotiations in the direction of determining the status of Artsakh.
"Meanwhile, unlike us, Aliyev is ready for such negotiations, because again, unlike us, he has demands clearly formulated decades ago. That is why Azerbaijan will strive to snatch from Armenia whatever possible. First of all, territories. And then already to achieve recognition by Yerevan of its own military- political superiority and vertical trade and economic relations through communications controlled by itself. Aliyev's general goal is to make Armenia dependent on Azerbaijan, "Melikyan summed up.
