ArmInfo. Armenia offered assistance in extinguishing wildfires in friendly Greece. As reported by the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vahan Hunanyan said, answering the relevant question.
"We are deeply concerned about the situation caused by wildfires in friendly Greece and express our solidarity with the brotherly Greek people at this difficult time.
I must note that we contacted our Greek partners and offered help. Greece expressed gratitude to Armenia for the offered assistance and readiness, while noting that given the transition of the situation with fires in the country from a crisis to a relatively mild stage, there is no need for additional assistance yet.
Of course, we will continue to closely monitor the situation, and if necessary, we will immediately lend a helping hand to the brotherly Greek people, "he said.
To recall, from July 29 to Thursday, August 12, 100.8 thousand hectares were burned out in Greece, This follows from the data of the European Forest Fire Information System EFFIS. And since the beginning of the year, fires have affected 114,300 hectares, more than half of which occurred on the island of Evia. Now on the second largest Greek island, more than 800 people are opposed to the spread of fire. Another 680 firefighters, including from abroad, extinguish fires in the Peloponnese.
As a result of fires in the country, at least three people died, hundreds lost their homes. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has once again linked the prolonged period of high temperatures and fires to climate change. We are not talking about a "Greek phenomenon", said the head of government, referring to a similar situation in a number of other southern European states.
