ArmInfo. During the meeting with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas, RA Acting Foreign Minister Armen Grigoryan spoke about the situation in the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions of the country formed as a result of the penetration of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
As reported by the RA MFA, Grigoryan also spoke about provocations periodically undertaken by Azerbaijan, including from the territory of Nakhijevan.
In the context of the assessments of the Armenian side regarding security in the CSTO zone of action and the processes in the Caucasus region, Grigoryan drew attention to the consequences of the Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh and the threats emanating from this. The need to de-escalate the situation was mutually emphasized.
At the meeting, the interlocutors also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The need for a comprehensive and long-term settlement of the Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group was emphasized.
The parties also touched upon the forthcoming chairmanship of Armenia in the CSTO. In this vein, Grigoryan spoke about the concept and approaches of the Armenian chairmanship, noting that among the priorities will be increasing the effectiveness of the organization in the region and strengthening mechanisms for timely response to the needs of the CSTO member states.
In turn, Zas stressed the importance of improving the CSTO and assured that the working arrangements of the military alliance will make every effort to implement the priorities of the Armenian side.
The CSTO Secretary General, within the framework of his visit to Yerevan, held a meeting at the Security Council of Armenia. According to the ministry, at the meeting, the head of the Security Council Office Hayk Petrosyan and Stanislav Zas discussed the current situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the latest processes, as well as the mechanisms existing within the CSTO for a peaceful resolution of the situation.
The interlocutors also touched upon the draft documents planned to be discussed at the meeting of the CSTO Security Council secretary committee scheduled in September in Tajikistan, as well as the preparation of priorities for the RA chairmanship in the Organization.
It should be reminded that on May 12-13 this year, Azerbaijani military units illegally entered the territory of Armenia and advanced deep into the country in two directions - in Syunik and Gegharkunik. To this day, Azerbaijani soldiers continue to illegally stay in the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia. Moreover, since mid-July of this year, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have periodically opened fire on Armenian positions in different parts of the border, including in the direction of Nakhichevan.
