ArmInfo. After Nikol Pashinyan received the expected vote of confidence from the citizens of Armenia in the last elections, nothing prevents the latter from making a decision to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan inside the country. Leader of the Armenian Constructive Party, political scientist Andrias Ghukasyan, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"Pashinyan himself spoke about this openly. And Vladimir Putin said this at a meeting with Pashinyan. Upon completion of the formation of the Armenian government, Russia as well as Azerbaijan and Turkey expect Pashinyan to fulfill his promises. Otherwise, I do not rule out large-scale aggression by Azerbaijan, "he said.
In this light, Ghukasyan noted that the results of the early elections were also observed in Baku. And seeing the frightened state, the lack of the will of the Armenian society to resist, which was reflected in the voting results, Aliyev raised the bar of demands even more. And today he is already ranting about the residence of Azerbaijanis in Armenia. To achieve what he considers possible, including by means of weapons.
. "We also see a complete lack of resistance from Russia to such manifestations of Azerbaijan's aggression. The CSTO has already stated that it does not intend to somehow protect Armenia. And this whole situation, in which Armenia is defenseless, will last as long as Armenia is in CSTO, because Armenia can receive international aid only by leaving the CSTO. Remaining in the CSTO, we simply cannot count on serious international assistance, " Gukasyan is convinced.
The political scientist considers the current aggression of Azerbaijan to be a natural consequence of the signing of a trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. According to him, this document does not contain new lines of contact between the conflicting parties, which has enabled Baku to form the ability to draw the line of contact at its own will, and if Armenia does not agree, to insist on it by force.
According to the political scientist, another important problem is the lack of legal consequences for violators of the November 9 statement, since it is not a full-fledged international agreement spelled out in the UN Secretariat. And Yerevan's fault in all this lies in Nikol Pashinyan's refusal position in response to the proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group and his consent to Russia's assistance in the settlement. And today, putting pressure on Armenia, Baku, among other things, demands Armenia's withdrawal from the MG and the conclusion of a direct peace treaty with it, without any intermediaries, "Ghukasyan summed up.
