ArmInfo. The statements according to which there is no Armenian army, that its backbone is broken, and we cannot defend our borders on our own, are an absolute lie. Our military is not at all broken by the results of the 44-day war, I was convinced of that by visiting our positions, including in Yeraskh. Leader of the party, former Prime Minister of Armenia Aram Sargsyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
Since July 14, the Azerbaijani army has been shelling the village of Yeraskh in the Ararat region of Armenia from the direction of Nakhichevan with small arms and mortars. An Armenian soldier became the victim of the shelling, and on July 19 the head of the Yeraskh community was wounded.
"As for Yeraskh, we are dealing exclusively with another border incident. And I personally am not inclined to see the geopolitical context in these skirmishes. And in all this there are no prospects for escalating into full-scale hostilities. The army is firmly in position, its spirit is still strong and our number one task is its technical re-equipment. This is the most important task for our government, since it is this army and no other that will have to defend our borders, "he stressed.
The fact that Yeraskh is a means of pressure on Yerevan in the light of the failure of the Armenian leadership, allegedly reached as a result of the 44-day war, of the oral agreements and even the signed agreements, according to Sargsyan, are asserted by the Azerbaijanis. He also noted that, unfortunately, there are media and political forces in Armenia that are actively disseminating this disinformation based on the interests of Baku.
In fact, according to the politician, there is only one document that put an end to and regulates the consequences of the 44-day treaty war - the tripartite statement of November 9 with its nine points. Treaty war, because Armenia and Artsakh had no chance to win the war with Azerbaijan and Turkey, nor even to stop it where it was stopped - at the walls of Stepanakert.
"It is clear that the 9th paragraph of this statement" unblocking all economic and transport links in the region "inspires me with deep concern. It has nothing to do with the Artsakh problem at all. And the only way for Armenia to get out of this trap is to postpone all points mentioned in the statement for consideration by the UN Security Council. In any case, consideration and settlement of all these issues in no way should take place in a trilateral format. This should take place with the participation of all three OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, and not only Russia. And Turkey should have nothing to do with all this," Sargsyan stressed.
According to the politician, the demarcation and delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is an urgent need. Otherwise, skirmishes at the border will continue indefinitely. The whole question is how this border will be determined and whether the interests of Armenia will not be infringed upon and, of course, with the condition that there is no connection with the question of the need to determine the status of Artsakh.
