ArmInfo. The threat of Azerbaijan unleashing new military clashes in Artsakh and on the border with Armenia exists, and today it is quite tangible. Mikayel Hayrapetyan, leader of the Conservative Party of Armenia, expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.
"I personally think that this threat is connected with the fact of the existence of the Russian-Turkish partnership. It is this fact that causes serious concern for the EU, in particular for France. And it is precisely this fact that determines the financial assistance offered to Armenia by our civilizational allies. And today we must not expect future geopolitical storms in performance of Moscow and Ankara, and actively prepare for them, in order to meet them in an advantageous position. I am convinced that this is possible. But this requires the presence of political thought and state thinking, "he stressed.
According to the politician, despite all its importance, the forthcoming visit of President of friendly France Emmanuel Macron to Armenia will not bring significant changes to the situation around Armenia. First of all, due to the fact that, unfortunately, France is unable to seriously change Russia's plans on its own. And today's realities, according to Hayrapetyan, require joining the efforts of France of the efforts of the United States in this direction. Without this, in his opinion, it will be impossible to shake the current status quo formed by Turkey and Russia in the region.
Commenting on the results of the visit of head of the European Council Charles Michel to Armenia, Hayrapetyan assessed it as very significant and symbolic. According to him, the statements made by Michel in Yerevan deserve deep gratitude. And today Armenia, in his opinion, needs to make reciprocal steps towards Europe. Steps expected from Yerevan in Brussels.
President of the European Council Charles Michel, who was in Yerevan on July 16-17, at a joint briefing with Nikol Pashinyan, voiced the EU's desire to "be involved in the region." "The EU stands by Armenia as a loyal and constructive partner to help you deal with different challenges, but also to uphold the values we all believe in - human values and democracy, and after all, to ensure progress, prosperity, stability and security. I have to convey a strong message: we stand by Armenia, and I hereby confirm the decision of the European Union to mobilize an unprecedented financial package of 2.6 billion euros in support of Armenia's priorities," Charles Michel noted.
At the same time, according to the politician's assessments, at this stage, the EU's capabilities are aimed at strengthening assistance to the infrastructure of Armenia's vulnerable areas. According to him, a significant increase in the EU's influence in the region can be expected only if Washington, the main real ally of Yerevan, assigns such powers to Brussels .
"We must be realistic. And if we really want to establish peace, then we must understand that the only way to establish it is through a direct dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, without Russian intervention.I think that in the current conditions Turkey is ready for such adialogue. And of course, we need to break our disgusting bicentennial stereotypes and get out of the darkness into the light," Hayrapetyan summed up.
