ArmInfo. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian signed decrees on the dismissal of Acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Armenia's Armed Forces Arshak Karapetyan. This was reported on the website of the head of state.
To note, Vagharshak Harutyunyan headed the Ministry of Defense of Armenia in November 2020, having previously held the position of adviser to the Prime Minister. Harutyunyan briefly held the post of head of the defense department under the presidency of Robert Kocharian, who impartially called him a "parquet general".
Arshak Karapetyan was appointed First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia in April 2021. Prior to that, Karapetyan served as chief of the intelligence department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, and adviser to the Prime Minister. To note, Karapetyan was dismissed from the Armenian Armed Forces after the April 4-day war of 2016 for failure in his work, where he was in charge of the intelligence department of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces. He returned to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Armenia after the "Velvet Revolution".
