ArmInfo. We see that the President of Azerbaijan obviously continues to speak with militaristic rhetoric, from time to time confirming the existence of territorial claims against Armenia and voicing threats demanding the "return" of Syunik, Gegharkunik regions and even Yerevan. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by the lawmaker of the "My Step" faction, expert on Azerbaijan Tatevik Hayrapetyan.
"I am convinced that such a course of action and rhetoric of Azerbaijan cannot lead our peoples towards establishing real peace. On the contrary, such statements and actions of the Azerbaijani leadership only increase the degree of the existing situation and create new hotbeds of tension. Continuing shelling of Armenia's Armed Forces positions from Nakhijevan are a vivid evidence of this, "she stressed. Commenting, in this light, all the latest statements of the same Aliyev, his expectations from Armenia in terms of signing a peace treaty, the parliamentarian stressed the impossibility of their implementation. "We have repeatedly stated that the conflict has not been resolved due to the lack of a solution to one of its cornerstone issues - the issue of the status of Artsakh. We declared the need to resolve it as a result of further negotiations towards a final settlement of the conflict. This is documented, including by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs," she stressed.
On July 18, following a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev considered the territorial conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh over and called on the Armenian leadership to enter into peace negotiations. "We have put an end to the confrontation in the region. The conflict is over, now the time has come to think about peace," he said.
Note that in parallel, Aliyev continues to periodically voice threats to Armenia and make territorial claims. Up to the provision of an extraterritorial "Zangezur corridor" to Azerbaijan through the territory of the Syunik region of Armenia for communication with the exclave of Nakhchivan. Here, an analogy with Hitler's 1938 demands for Poland to grant Germany the Danzig Corridor is obvious. In this light, the parliamentarian assesses Aliyev's ideas about a peace treaty with Armenia as very far from reality. In her opinion, an agreement that includes the best and most cherished dreams of Azerbaijan and tramples on the interests of Armenia simply cannot be concluded. At the same time, the signing of a real peace treaty, according to Hayrapetyan, could become a reality if Baku agreed to mutual concessions. But in no way in the version currently proposed by Aliyev. The parliamentarian is convinced that it is impossible for Yerevan to even consider such an option for establishing peace.
