Political scientist: Armenia has reached a stalemate between the West  and Russia

ArmInfo.At this stage, a process conditioned by the interests of external forces, in particular the United States, is taking place in the region and this process is  related to the actions of Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Head of the   Armenian Constructive Party, political scientist Andrias Ghukasyan,  expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.

"We are talking about the US attention to the process of demarcation  and delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan and  Moscow's proposals addressed to Yerevan and Baku in this direction.  It is important to note Nikol Pashinyan's agreement to put his  signature on Moscow's initiative after the elections. Thus, today we  are not even talking about some new concessions to Armenia, but about  the implementation of concessions, for which the consent of Yerevan  has already been obtained on the day of signing the surrender of  Armenia, "he stressed.

According to the political scientist, today Armenia cannot make these  concessions either, first of all, due to Pashinyan's inability to  legitimize all these anti-Armenian initiatives and projects, an  inability, which Pashinyan cannot change even after receiving another  mandate of confidence in the authorities. Ghukasyan explains such  constraint of the Armenian Prime Minister by the positions of the  United States and France on this issue.

Commenting on the current situation, the tension on the  Armenia-Azerbaijan border, in particular, the murder of an Armenian  serviceman, the political scientist assessed as quite predictable and  expected. In his opinion, this state of affairs, unfortunately, is  facilitated by the choice of a certain number of Armenian citizens in  the recent parliamentary elections. He also noted the complete  absence of any hope for an end to killings and other crimes on the  border after its demarcation and delimitation.

The deployment of Russian border guards on the Armenian-Azerbaijani  border, in the opinion of the political scientist, pursues only the  goal of consolidating the current situation. And to expect from the  Russian military personnel a different attitude towards the Armenians  than it was, for example, in relation to the Armenian soldiers killed  and captured by Azerbaijanis in Khtsaberd, in his opinion, is  pointless. In this light, the Russian presence at the border,  according to his forecasts, will only add additional impunity to the  crimes of Azerbaijanis.  

"One way or another, but in any case, the intentions and  determination of France and the United States to resolve the issue of  the status of Artsakh within the framework of the format of the OSCE  Minsk Group co- chairs are evident today.  However, these intentions  contradict the intentions of Azerbaijan. As a result, the latter  deliberately aggravates the situation on the border in order to push  forward its own plans. What is Russia doing in response? In fact, it  shows tacit consent in response to the killings of Armenian  servicemen. Thus, the current situation faced by Armenia can be  described as a stalemate. We can neither cooperate with the West, nor  legitimize the realities that seek to establish Azerbaijan in the  region, " Ghukasyan summed up.
