ArmInfo.Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev got a very weighty slap in the face from the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group on Shushi. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by head of the Armenian Institute for International and Security Affairs Styopa Safaryan.
"Apparently, the refusal of the ambassadors of the United States, Russia and France to attend the shameful event organized by Aliyev's administration in occupied Shushi became a clear and very unambiguous message to Aliyev. They made it clear, that the bloody solution to the conflict around Artsakh is a solution only in his understanding. And so they just won't let him digest what he has done, "he said.
On July 10, on the personal instruction of Ilham Aliyev, a visit of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan - ambassadors of 46 states to Artsakh Shushi occupied by the Azerbaijani army was organized. However, the ambassadors of the United States, France and Russia, not accepting the invitation from Baku, refused tovisit the occupied city.
In the opinion of the analyst, what is happening is especially topical in view of the continuing aggression of Aliyev's Azerbaijan, now against the sovereign territory of Armenia. The invasion of the Azerbaijani army into the territory of Gegharkunik and Syunik regions of Armenia, the current tension on the border, Safaryan considers a direct continuation of the aggressive policy and the war unleashed by Baku last year against Artsakh. Nevertheless, starting from the statements made by officials from Moscow recently, according to which "the situation on the borders is not connected with the Karabakh conflict ", the analyst gets the impression of certain changes in Russia's position on the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The lack of awareness in Moscow that the current situation on the border with Azerbaijan is a direct consequence of the guaranteed surrender of the Karvachar and Kashatag regions of Artsakh to Azerbaijan on November 9, 2011, causes deep concern.
"It is noteworthy that initially Yerevan's point of view on Azerbaijan's violation of our border coincided, at least, with the opinion of the Russian military leadership. However, it began to change after the actions of the Azerbaijani military on May 12. Thus, one gets the impression that such changes were the result of certain promises made by Baku. There is no other way to explain such changes in Moscow's opinion, which in no way eliminates Russia's responsibility for the situation as a guarantor of the implementation of the process begun on November 9. In particular, the process of defining the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the basis of Soviet topographic and other maps", Safaryan summed up.
