Politician: Armenia have to make a civilizational choice

ArmInfo.To ensure security, Armenia has no alternative but the West - NATO, the EU and the United States. We can and must ensure our own security through a military  alliance with these structures and states. Chairman of the  Conservative Party of Armenia Mikayel Hayrapetyan expressed a similar  opinion to ArmInfo.

"The guarantee of the realization of such a need is the liberation of  Armenian political thought from stereotypes, myths and bonds. Already  today, as a result of adherence to such stereotypes, Armenia is  becoming a kind of appendix state in a common regional organism. The  world is on the eve of great wars, and we are still doing nothing  standing in the middle of this reality. In such conditions, Armenia  is simply obliged to make its civilizational choice, "the politician  said.

According to Hayrapetyan's estimates, one of such myths, which were  debunked, is Armenia's membership in the CSTO and the related  guarantees of its security. The politician evaluates the statement  made the other day by the CSTO Secretary General as an official  refusal of the organization from its own obligations towards Armenia.   Thus, the CSTO demonstrated that it is not only superfluous, but also  a very dangerous organization for Armenia. Taking into account the  world's attitude to the CSTO member states, the danger, according to  his forecasts, will only grow.

On July 5, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen  Grigoryan, during a telephone conversation with CSTO Secretary  General Stanislav Zas, expressed concern over Zas' assessments of the  situation at the border as a "border incident". The Secretary of the  Security Council expressed confidence that the current situation  cannot be qualified as an incident, since for a long time the  servicemen of Azerbaijan have not left the sovereign territory of  Armenia. Grigoryan also noted the expediency of the visit of the  delegation of the CSTO secretariat in order to get acquainted on the  spot with the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

In such conditions, the first duty of Armenia, according to  Hayrapetyan, is to independently protect its own borders, while  simultaneously applying for help to the UN Security Council and its  civilizational allies:  France and the United States. According to  his forecasts, France will be able to stop the Russian-supported  advancement of the Turkic world views in the region only after  reciprocal steps by Armenia, under the favorable conditions  prevailing in the United States.  

"One of the messages in the direction of the current situation is the  package of assistance provided by the European Union for Armenia. We  should not feel euphoria from this, given that similar assistance is  being provided to Azerbaijan. However, by doing so, Europe directly  declares its readiness to support us. I consider the provision of  this financial assistance on a par with the proposals of the French  President to support Armenia, the visit of NATO ambassadors to  Syunik, etc. But, unfortunately, our authorities still continue to  cling to myths, "he summed up.  

According to the document presented and approved on July 2 in  Brussels with the initiatives of the European Commission until 2025  in the member states of the Eastern Partnership, the EU will allocate  more than 1.5 billion euros to Armenia in the next 5 years.  The  funds will be provided on the implementation of five key programs,  including the development of the Syunik region.
