ArmInfo. During a telephone conversation with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zasem, RA Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan expressed concern about some formulations and assessments voiced on June 3 in the statement of the Secretary General of the Organization.
As reported by the press service of the RA Security Council, Grigoryan expressed confidence that the current situation cannot be regarded as an incident, since the Azerbaijani servicemen have not left the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia for a long time. Considering that the actions of the Azerbaijani side are an obvious attempt to occupy a part of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan once again stressed the need for restraint in matters of wording at the level of the CSTO Secretariat in order to prevent torpedoing constructive efforts to resolve the situation.
At the end of the conversation, Armen Grigoryan emphasized that it is expedient to organize a visit of the CSTO Secretariat to familiarize themselves on the spot with the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
In turn, the CSTO Secretary General congratulated Armen Grigoryan on the organization and holding of successful early parliamentary elections on June 20 in Armenia.
To recall, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas in an interview with journalists at the end of last week said that the aggravation of the situation in the south of Armenia in connection with the establishment of a new border with Azerbaijan is a "border incident" and does not fall under the provisions of the CSTO charter on collective defense. "You have to understand that the CSTO potential is used only in the event of an aggression, an attack [on one of the member countries]. Here we are dealing, in fact, with a border incident. Thank God, there are no casualties, there are no shooting there. This is a border incident, it must be solved, and we are in favor of solving it peacefully, "he said.
According to him, there is no escalation of the conflict. "In principle, we can say that the situation is no tensioning. There is a lot of work ahead on the border issue, the resolution of all these controversial issues, but they need to be resolved for negotiating table ", Zas pointed out.
