ArmInfo. Georgia and Armenia are restoring railway service interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. The first train will leave on June 15 from Yerevan to Batumi, Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava said at a briefing after a government meeting on Monday.
"I want to say that the railway communication between Armenia and Georgia has been restored. On June 15, the first train will leave from Yerevan to Batumi through Tbilisi. This means that tourists from our allied, neighboring state will come to Georgia, to our Black Sea resorts, to our capital , to other tourist places, "Turnava said, reports TASS.
Passenger trains between Armenia and Georgia have not run since March 2020. As explained to a source in the "Georgian Railway", the launch date of the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan train, which was also interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic, is not yet known.
Georgia on June 1 opened land borders with its closest neighbors, which have been closed since March last year. Those foreigners from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkey who have completed the full course of vaccination can enter the republic, presenting also at the border a certificate of a negative PCR test result. If, upon entering Georgia, a person cannot submit a document confirming that he has been vaccinated, at the border he will be able to show a certificate of a negative PCR test made 72 hours in advance, as well as undertake an obligation to re-pass the test within three days. The ban on regular flights has also been lifted in Georgia since February 1.
