ArmInfo. The Armenian-Georgian land border began to function in full.
Thus, according to the decision of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council for the Fight against Coronavirus under the Prime Minister of Georgia, it reported on opening from June 1 its land borders with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
According to the decision, tourists from more than 50 countries of the world are allowed to visit Georgia. Entry into the country is allowed for those foreigners who have already completed a full course of vaccination and presented a certificate of a negative result of a PCR test for coronavirus at the border. Anyone who has not completed the full course of vaccination will be allowed to enter Georgia on the basis of a PCR test done 72 hours before crossing the border, and also on the condition that on the third day of his stay in the republic he will again pass the coronavirus test.
To recall, Georgia closed its land borders on March 16, 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. The restrictions did not affect cargo transportation. Since February 1 of this year, Georgia has opened its air borders to citizens of a number of countries, including neighboring Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. It is also worth noting that the restrictions that have been in effect for more than a year have become a serious obstacle for the citizens of Armenia, who not only organized their holidays on Georgian territory, but also often traveled to Russia in transit through Georgia through the Kazbegi - Upper Lars checkpoint.
The head of the Georgian government, Irakli Garibashvili, at a government meeting, referring to the decision to open land borders, expressed belief that this step will contribute to an increase in the number of tourists, which in turn will have a positive impact on economic growth. "We expect a quick recovery in the tourism sector. Naturally, the opening of borders from tomorrow will be another important stimulus towards the recovery of our economy," Garibashvili said on May 31.
