ArmInfo. The CSTO issued a statement in connection with the situation in the zone of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Syunik region of Armenia.
According to the press service of the Organization, the Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Collective Security Treaty Organization Viktor Biyagov during the meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council on May 13 this year informed about the incident on the state border of the Republic of Armenia with the Republic of Azerbaijan, which took place on May 12. According to the Armenian side, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border and plunged into the Armenian territory for several kilometers.
"CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas discussed the current situation by telephone with Acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ara Aivazian.
The CSTO is closely following the development of the situation in the border regions of the Syunik region of Armenia. As the situation develops, if necessary, actions will be taken under the provisions of the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO Charter, "the CSTO statement said.
It should be noted that yesterday a group of Azerbaijani soldiers consisting of 150-200 people illegally entered the territory of the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia, and having advanced 3.5 km into the depths of the country, they are trying to gain a foothold at Lake Sevlich. Negotiations have been held between the parties since yesterday, but the issue has not yet been resolved. The Armenian authorities confirmed this fact only at night during the session of the Security Council. The military prosecutor's office instructed the military police to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the incident to prepare materials.
