ArmInfo. The key to normalizing the further situation in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is to fully comply with the agreements reached by the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020 and January 11 of this year. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on May 11 in Baku, stressing that the Karabakh settlement had been discussed in detail with his Azerbaijani counterpart.
According to him, these agreements provide both all the necessary mechanisms to maintain the cessation of any hostilities, and are aimed at unblocking communications, which for many years did not allow to fully reveal the very serious transit and economic potential of this important geopolitical region.
"We are grateful to our Azerbaijani colleagues for the high assessment of the activities of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. Our military operate in close contact with our Azerbaijani colleagues, and in general we assess their activities very positively. They really contribute to the restoration of peaceful life," the Russian Foreign Minister said, adding that an important contribution to the implementation of the agreements is made by the activities of the trilateral working group at the level of the deputy prime ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, which is engaged in identifying specific ways to unblock transport and economic ties. According to him, this will allow connecting the Transcaucasian countries with their neighbors into a single transport and logistics space. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group co- chairs remain in demand, primarily in helping to solve humanitarian problems and promoting confidence- building measures between the parties. To clarify how the process of implementing the points of the trilateral statement is going on, Lavrov said, in particular: "I have already mentioned that we highly appreciate the work of the trilateral group, consisting of deputy prime ministers of the three countries, who are working very productively. We have reason to believe that we will receive the results of this work in the near future. " When asked if there is an understanding when the sides will move from words to actions within the framework of the trilateral group, Lavrov stated that if it has not yet been decided how to do all this, along which routes, then guessing when this will take place is probably not very productive.
"The issue is being resolved in a complex, taking into account the interests of all interested parties - and this will remind not only Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also Russia, Turkey and Iran as neighboring countries, which, as neighbors, would also like to reflect the balance of interests of this region. I would like to mention once again, there is movement, very specific and in the right direction, "the minister summed up.
