ArmInfo. By voicing claims to the territory of Armenia and, moreover, threatening to implement these claims through military force, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is openly bluffing. A similar opinion was expressed by the head of the Department of Iranian Studies of Yerevan State University, Vardan Voskanyan, to ArmInfo.
"I am convinced that Azerbaijan will not dare to commit open military aggression against Armenia in order to implement its own invention called the "Zangezur Corridor". In the end, this "corridor" is not in any document - in the trilateral statement of November 9, there is only a clause on the need to ensure land communication between Nakhichevan and, in fact, Azerbaijan. This is what Aliyev is trying to use in order to realize his own increased appetites," he said.
Recently, Aliyev once again stated that "Azerbaijan will fulfill the task of implementing the Zangezur corridor, whether Armenia wants it or not," threatening to resolve the issue by force if Yerevan refuses to meet its own wishes. Describing Aliyev's statements as provocative and contradictory, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that if Azerbaijan talks about the "Zangezur corridor", then the Armenian leadership can talk about the Nakhichevan corridor or the corridor for Armenia through the north of Azerbaijan.
The Iranist considers the position of Russia and Iran regarding the Napoleonic plans of the Azerbaijani dynasty to be an important factor in favor of the unrealizability of Aliyev's dreams. According to him, neither Moscow nor Tehran are interested in realizing the long-standing and cherished dreams of the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem. Since it is part of a large pan-Turkic project with the ultimate goal of Turkey's entry into Central Asia. In this light, Voskanyan expects nothing but the expected criticism of such plans from Moscow and especially from Tehran.
According to the Iranist, such criticism of Azerbaijan has already been voiced from Tehran. In this light, he noted the analytical articles with relevant content and expert opinion in the Iranian publications Fars and Mehr. Voskanyan considers the territorial integrity of Armenia to be the red line of Tehran on the path of the pan-Turkic aspirations of Ankara and Baku. According to him, if Aliyev's ephemeral plans are implemented, the "Zangezur Corridor" will pass through the very south of Armenia, through the Meghri border with Iran, which may interfere with direct communication between Iran and Armenia. What is very well understood in Tehran and already sobering Aliyev with his dreams is a reminder of the geopolitical realities.
