ArmInfo.Paradoxically, after the war, new weighty preconditions appeared for the development of relations between Jerusalem and Yerevan. Famous Israeli political scientist and public figure Avigdor Eskin expressed this opinion in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
The political scientist noted that six months after the 44-day war, information appeared about the possibility of the return of the Armenian Ambassador to Tel Aviv. Shortly before the war, an Armenian embassy was opened in Israel, but from the very beginning of hostilities, the ambassador was recalled. As Eskin recalled, during the war Yerevan accused Israel of selling weapons to Azerbaijan. An atmosphere of mutual claims reigned: Israel blamed Armenia for refusing to establish relations for almost three decades and military cooperation with Iran, and Armenia expressed dissatisfaction with the contract for the supply of weapons to Azerbaijan.
Against this background, as the political scientist emphasized, with all the privileges and benefits from cooperation with Azerbaijan, Israel failed to anyhow succeed in political cooperation. That is, strategic interaction on Iran continues and has a mutual interest, the sale of oil by Azerbaijan and the purchase of weapons also turned out to be economically profitable, but Baku's anti-Israel position in all international organizations has undergone no changes. Moreover, Azerbaijan now still refuses to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
It is interesting, according to Eskin, that Jerusalem reacted very coldly to Turkey's attempts to begin to improve relations. Israel does not exclude the continuation of economic cooperation and the possibility of limited political interaction. But so as not to damage the strategic alliance with Greece, after all, a $ 1.65 billion contract was recently signed between Athens and Jerusalem, under which Israel will improve the Greek Air Force. Israel will also not risk its friendly relations with Arab countries, which are in a state of confrontation with Erdogan.
As for Armenia, he is convinced that no expert would argue that the refusal of the Armenian Ministry of Defense to purchase Israeli advanced weapons in 2015 was a mistake. The army now needs urgent modernization, and Israel may be a natural address. Cooperation in the field of agriculture, high technology and medicine is possible. Yerevan also drew attention to Tehran's position during the war, when the spiritual leader of Iran directly called for Armenia's complete renunciation of Karabakh. So it turns out: Azerbaijan, friendly to Israel, refuses to establish diplomatic relations with it, while Armenia is ready to do it. And Iran, friendly to Armenia, calls for a complete secession of Artsakh from Armenia, while Israel is always emphatically neutral. Such absurdities require a historical adjustment.
