MP: It`s not the vote that matters. The agenda is important

ArmInfo.Taking into account the absence of a special influence of the vote of the Russian delegation in PACE on the formation of the assembly's agenda, I do not consider the hype raised around this topic in Armenia justified.

A similar opinion, commenting on the results of the vote in PACE on the  inclusion in the agenda of the spring session of the issue of the  return of Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan, was expressed by ArmInfo  deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia Arman Babajanyan.

During the vote in the PACE on April 20, 5 of the 12 members of the  Russian delegation voted "against", the remaining seven abstained on  the need to discuss the issue of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan  during the PACE spring session. The Azerbaijani delegation voted"  against " - 6 people, 8 out of 9 members of the Turkish delegation,  and one delegate each from Serbia and Hungary - a total of 21  delegates. 93 parliamentarians voted " for " the discussion of the  issue, another 18 abstained.

According to the head of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Ruben  Rubinyan, following his conversation with his Russian counterpart  Pyotr Tolstoy, it turned out that the incident was the result of a  communication problem. "Tolstoy said that they confirm Russia's  position on the need for the immediate return of the Armenian  prisoners of war on the principle of "all for all". He also told me  that they will confirm this position with their respective speeches,  "Rubinyan stressed.

In general, the MP considers it important to pay attention not to the  results of a separate vote in PACE, but to the Russian policy towards  Armenia and the entire Caucasian policy of Moscow in the post-war  period. Babajanyan considers it necessary to evaluate this policy  based not on emotions, but solely on pragmatic political interests.   Moreover, both Russia and Armenia itself.

In this light, he is convinced that the international community is  not at all interested in supporting Armenia in solving the most  important issues. This is primarily due to the understanding of the  perspective in which Yerevan uses this assistance to resolve issues  that are important for Russia. Since in the understanding of the  Armenian political elite, moreover, at the national level, Russia is  the strategic ally, the only savior of Armenia, and not the  international community.

"In this light, before turning to the world for assistance in  humanitarian issues of regional military and political significance,  we need to do significant work with the international community to  create a common environment of interests. For example, as it is done  in the case of Russia. Otherwise, the international community will  simply continue to be guided by a practical assessment of the  realities. At least in the same issue of the early release of our  prisoners, " the parliamentarian predicts.
