ArmInfo. The views of the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan, whose ideological ally in this position is Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, regarding the establishment of relations with Turkey are extremely simplified. A similar opinion was expressed by the dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Yerevan State University, turkologist Ruben Melkonyan.
"Here it is appropriate to recall the disappearance from the map of the world of some states, whose leadership even 100 years ago had similar simplified ideas about the possibility of relations with Turkey. It is no secret that Ankara links the establishment of trade and economic relations with Yerevan with Armenia's rejection of the Artsakh issue, international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and Armenia's recognition of the Kars Treaty. The latter will exclude any territorial claims of Armenia against Turkey, " he stressed.
According to the Turkologist, the Pashinyan government is now moving in the direction of meeting these preconditions put forward by Ankara. In this light, he did not rule out the possibility of a document appearing in the circulation, in which Armenia directly or indirectly declares its rejection of the international recognition of the Genocide. The unblocking of the Armenian-Turkish borders, in his opinion, will be accompanied by their demarcation, respectively, by Ankara's demand to Yerevan to renounce its territorial claims.
According to Melkonyan, the prospect of establishing trade and economic relations with Turkey is also very ambiguous for Armenia. According to his forecasts, all this will end with the dominance of Turkish capital in Armenia and, as a result, the inevitable Adjarization of our country. And all these sad prospects, in his opinion, are regularly supported by statements at the level of the top leadership of Armenia. "Thus, having very dangerous laws in this regard, I do not exclude that after the unblocking of the borders, the Turks will actively buy up land, houses and hotels in Armenia. Today, it is not so easy to sell land in our country, and the Turks can afford to buy land at a fairly high price. Thus, the absence of legislative barriers in this direction will lead to a" soft " takeover of our country by Turkey. And all this is not fiction, all this is quite real prospects. And this reality is supported by the way of thinking and the policy of our leadership, " the Turkologist concluded.
