ArmInfo. The Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, in fact, confirms the hijacking of a Boeing 737 aircraft with an Armenian registration. Earlier, former adviser to Prime Minister Hakob Chagharyan wrote on his Facebook page that on February 21, the Civil Aviation Committee received a telegram from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates about the hijacking of a Boeing 737 aircraft with the Armenian registration number EK-FAA.
The plane took off from Tallinn (Estonia) and was supposed to land in Yerevan. But instead, the decision was made in the air to go to the United Arab Emirates for maintenance. Due to a technical malfunction, it landed in Tehran.
Meanwhile, according to the report of the RA Civil Aviation Committee posted on its Facebook page, there were no passengers on board of the aircraft, and the pilots were citizens of foreign states. "The flight was of a technical nature, information about the landing is under investigation. The committee is investigating the issue of unauthorized takeoff and unauthorized landing. Based on the interests of the investigation, the committee will notify the final results after the completion of the investigation," the Committee said. It is noteworthy that earlier the department reported that it had not received officially confirmed information about the theft from the relevant authorities, as reported by the media on February 22. At the same time, the Committee is aware of the location of the aircraft and is currently working closely with the aviation authorities of the respective countries.
