ArmInfo. A petition on the website of the Australian Parliament calling for the recognition of the Republic of Artsakh was presented to the House of Representatives and submitted to Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne.
According to the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU), a total of 3,164 Australians signed the ANC-AU petition urging legislators and the country's government to follow the example of the French Parliament, the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales and other legislatures and recognize the right to self-determination of the Republic of Artsakh. part of which is currently occupied by Azerbaijan after a large-scale military aggression carried out with the support of Turkey and with the involvement of mercenaries last autumn.
In accordance with the requirements of the petition, ministers have 90 days to respond to it from the date of its submission to the House of Representatives.
"The petition was reviewed at a recent meeting of the committee and confirmed as meeting the requirements for petitions. It was presented to the House of Representatives on 02/15/2021 and recently submitted to the Minister of Foreign Affairs," the Standing Committee on Petitions said in a letter. "We look forward to hearing from the Foreign Minister, who we call for bringing the Australian government to justice and to support the security and inviolability of our ancestral homeland, " - said the executive director of ANC-AU Haig Kayserian.
