ArmInfo. Hovhannes Igityan, deputy chairman of the parliamentary commission on foreign relations, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, said that representatives of the PACE Bureau promised to raise the issue of Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan in a special report.
During the press conference, the deputy said that he had talked with representatives of the PACE Bureau, who noted that they were embarrassed, since this important issue was not included in the agenda. Moreover, members of the European Parliament promised to deal with the same issue.
"When an issue concerning Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny was put on the agenda of the meeting, I made a statement, noting that Navalny was alone. While there are dozens of Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan, the fate of which is unclear. Moreover, we don't even know if they are alive. Therefore, this issue should be in the center of attention of PACE and other international structures, "the deputy noted. Igityan also noted that almost all PACE delegates are opposed to Azerbaijan in the issue of Armenian prisoners. Many PACE members believe that Baku violated a number of international agreements concerning prisoners of war.
"We will continue to keep the issue of Armenian prisoners on the agenda and will constantly raise it at all international platforms. I would also like to inform you that the European Parliament has adopted two resolutions, which touch on the Artsakh problem, in particular, the issue of human rights, "Igityan concluded.
