ArmInfo.Since yesterday, rumors have been spread in the Azerbaijani media that German Foreign Minister Heiko Mass, answering a question from Armenian MP Ruben Rubinyan, denied the participation of Syrian mercenaries in the Artsakh war against Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, the transcript of the German Foreign Minister's full speech shows that he, on the contrary, confirmed that Syrian mercenaries were involved in the Artsakh war.
Maas, in particular, said: "Regarding the issue of Syrian mercenaries in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, we are familiar with the issue of Syrian mercenaries involved in the war against Nagorno Karabakh. I think we need to understand that this is not the only conflict at this moment where Syrian mercenaries are involved in. We have a similar situation also in Libya. Based on the information we have [over Karabakh], we suppose that there are still some Syrian mercenaries left in the conflict zone, and all international efforts were made to understand how they have been used, their actual number and who bears responsibility for their presence, however, we do not have a final information on this matter yet. Turkey plays an important role in this conflict in terms of influence on Azerbaijan. We have already made it clear to the Turkish government that Turkey can use its influence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to increase security and stability in the region."
