ArmInfo. Determining the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan using GPS raises a number of questions. An independent analyst Saro Saroyan expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.
"In particular, the question arises whether Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan considers the results of parliamentary voting in 2010 as basis for the current process of border demarcation. Or does he believe that parliament committed lawlessness in 2010? The prime minister does not give answer to this reasonable question, preferring to use this document solely for the purpose of blaming the "former regime" for what is happening, " he noted.
The analyst considers unacceptable such transformation of the border problem into a political one, drawing dividing lines in society in order to obtain additional political dividends. If the "formers" really committed iniquities in 2010, then nothing should prevent the prime minister from punishing them to the fullest extent of the law.
According to the analyst, all such issues between Yerevan and Baku must be resolved through a bilateral or multilateral agreement. However, there are no such agreements. There are only statements by Pashinyan himself about the pending signing of a trilateral document regulating border issues. It is here, according to Saroyan's forecasts, that the main problem will arise.
"By signing such a document, the Prime Minister of Armenia automatically recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. However, such a signing will come into conflict with the complex of legal regulations of Armenia. With the basis of our state, which does not recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, the issue is just returning to the legal field ", he noted. According to Saroyan's estimates, neither the prime minister himself nor, moreover, his team is aware of the seriousness of problems of this level. In this light, he considers it necessary to search for a formula allowing Armenia to avoid recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan together with the enclave in the form of Artsakh.
"There is a wide range of questions. The same trilateral statement of November 9 noted that the issue of determining the status of Artsakh is left for the future. And I do not exclude that this will give Armenia the opportunity to avoid the inclusion of the Artsakh enclave in the territorial framework of the state of Azerbaijan. Another issue is the status of a 5km corridor between Armenia and Artsakh, "he said.
In light of the existence of such issues, the very fact of the absence of a mention of Artsakh in the pending signing of the trilateral agreement is of vital significance for Pashinyan, according to the analyst. Accordingly, even recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the Armenian prime minister can refer to the absence of a mention in the document of the issue of the status of Artsakh.
"However, here the question immediately arises - what is isolated, enclave Artsakh? And here our authorities are already driving themselves into a trap. A trap from which, even in the best case, it will be very difficult to free themselves," the analyst concluded.
