ArmInfo. During 8 years of my parliamentary activity, I have repeatedly returned to the issue of recognizing the Republic of Artsakh. Leader of the "Bright Armenia" faction Edmon Marukyan told reporters on November 26 during a briefing.
He said that during these years MP Zaruhi Postanjyan presented a draft on the recognition of Artsakh, but the latter was not adopted. "We were told off-records that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries are against the recognition of Artsakh," Marukyan said, noting that after that they made attempts again, which received a similar outcome. The MP said that this initiative was not approved during the April war in 2016, with the same wording that the co-chair countries are against.
''If this is true, then let the Armenian authorities, who ruled the country over the past 27 years, answer the question whether the co-chairing countries really opposed the recognition of Artsakh. If so, why did no one react in any way to the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin?>, he stressed.
Marukyan also recalled that at a special meeting on September 27, when martial law was declared in the country, he also raised the issue of recognizing Artsakh: "I told the Prime Minister that earlier we did not recognize Artsakh, because we were afraid that this decision could turn into a war. ... But the war has already begun. Maybe the time has come to recognize Artsakh now? To which Nikol Pashinyan replied that this issue will be included in the agenda>.
After a certain time, as noted by Marukyan, representatives of various political forces appealed to him with a proposal to hold hearings in the parliament on the recognition of Artsakh. "I contacted the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who approved this proposal, but asked to postpone it so as not to harm the course of the war. That is, all our initiatives on this issue have not been crowned with success, "he said.
To recall, Russian President Vladimir Putin a few days earlier explained in detail on the air <Moscow. Kremlin. Putin> why Russia did not provide direct military assistance to Armenia, despite the fact that it is a member of the CSTO. Putin explained that Azerbaijan started a war against Nagorno-Karabakh, the battles were fought only on its territory, while Yerevan itself did not recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
